Six months, a long-awaited chicken coop, and two very opinionated lap chickens. Meet a backyard flock keeper who's discovering that the best part of chicken keeping might just be the little moments.
Some chickens are happy to peck around the garden and do their own thing. Others? They want to be right in the middle of whatever you're doing, especially if someone else is getting attention.
Just ask our latest Flock Talk guest who's discovered that time in the garden can quickly turn into a full-blown cuddle session. One morning, Megan was sitting outside with one of her hens on her lap when another chicken decided she was being left out. She hopped up, started pecking for attention, and made her feelings known.
The solution? More cuddles.
When she finally pulled both chickens in close, she recalled, “My heart was so full!”
It's the kind of moment that reminds you that chickens have personalities all their own—and that life with a flock can be full of unexpected surprises.

Four Years in the Making
Although she's been a chicken keeper for just six months, the idea had been on her mind for much longer.
Ever since moving into a house where chickens were allowed, she'd wanted a flock of her own. But it took four years, and a little help from a neighbor with baby chicks available, to finally make it happen.
That's when she convinced her husband it was time to build a coop.
And just like that, a long-awaited dream became part of everyday life.

The Best Part? Learning to Slow Down
For Megan, the joy of chicken keeping isn't just about having fresh eggs or checking another task off the list. It's about being outside, sitting in the garden, and watching her chickens simply be chickens.
“I love just sitting in the garden and watching my chickens peck around,” she shares. “They teach me to slow down and be present.”
It's a lovely reminder that sometimes the best part of a hobby isn't what you get out of it - it's how it makes you feel. A little time outside, a few chickens doing their thing, and permission to stop rushing for a while.

Meet Bebe: The Spunky One
Every flock has its characters, and Bebe sounds like she's already claimed her starring role.
She's the spunky, friendly one who loves treats and is always ready for a cuddle. Curious and sweet, Bebe has all the makings of a chicken who knows exactly how to win people over.
And if there's one thing this flock has made clear, it's that affection isn't necessarily a one-on-one affair.
Share your flock with us on Instagram at @GetPeckingOrder, we'd love to meet them!
